Breakout Session Presenter: Information Sharing Around Silos and Statues
Kathleen Styles is the Department of Education’s first Chief Privacy Officer, a position she has held since April 2011. Previously, she served at the U.S. Census Bureau as the Chief of the Office of Analysis and Executive Support, where she managed a portfolio that included confidentiality, data management, the Freedom of Information Act, data stewardship policy, and coordination for the acquisition and management of data from other agencies. Styles serves as senior advisor to the Secretary on the Department’s policies and programs related to privacy, confidentiality, and data management. She heads a new division dedicated to advancing data stewardship within the Department of Education. She also will coordinate technical assistance efforts for states, districts, and other education stakeholders, helping them navigate privacy issues.
